History
OEGSE’s history has been defined by the bold and long-term vision of its Founder and Chairman, Daryl Katz, for building the organization into an industry-leader in sports, entertainment, destinations, media, hospitality and real estate.
2008
Daryl Katz acquires the Edmonton Oilers and the Edmonton Oil Kings and creates the Oilers Entertainment Group (now OEG Sports & Entertainment)
2010
Begins assembling a 25-acre parcel of contiguous real estate in downtown Edmonton
2012
Unveiling of the plans for ICE District, now North America’s second largest mixed-use sports and entertainment district
2014
Acquisition of the Bakersfield Condors
OEGSE partners with the City of Edmonton to develop Rogers Place, an award-winning, world-class sports and entertainment venue
Construction begins on ICE District Phase 1
2015
Oilers win NHL draft lottery and select Erie Otters star Connor McDavid
2016
Edmonton Tower opens in ICE District
Rogers Place opens as the new home of the Edmonton Oilers and a premier destination for sports and entertainment in North America
